G

Well, tomorrow Melissa G leaves for Africa.

I'm really, really happy that she's getting to go. I think it's awesome that she's gonna get to share the Lord with people in Togo. (BTW, I once knew a couple of girls from Togo. They went to the BSU once in awhile for ESL classes.) I think it would be absolutely amazing to get to go there. I bet it's beautiful there.

And although I'm gonna miss my primary hangout buddy (sigh), I am absolutely thrilled that she's gonna go.

I know this is kind of early, but I'm gonna go ahead and put this song on my board, in her honor.

Do they know it's Christmas?

--Band Aid

It's Christmastime,
there's no need to be afraid
At Christmastime,
we let in light and we banish shade
And in our world of plenty
we can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world
at Christmastime

But say a prayer,
pray for the other ones
At Christmastime it's hard,
but when you're having fun
There's a world outside your window,
and it's a world of dread and fear
Where the only water flowing
is the bitter sting of tears
And the Christmas bells that ring there
are the clanging chimes of doom
Well tonight thank God it's them
instead of you

And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmastime
The greatest gift they'll get this year is life(Oooh)
Where nothing ever grows
No rain or rivers flow
Do they know it's Christmastime at all?

Here's to you raise a glass for everyone
Here's to them underneath that burning sun
Do they know it's Christmastime at all?

Feed the world
Feed the world
Feed the world
Let them know it's Christmastime again

Feed the world
Let them know it's Christmastime again

I've always liked song...starting back when I was a kid. But now that my roomie spent awhile in Africa (not Togo, but Namibia) it has such a deeper meaning. Thanks for posting it.

I know how it is to miss your main hangout buddy....like I did when Amanda went to Africa. But when you think of her and miss her...be sure to take those moments and pray for her.

Also, my cousins (John and Michelle Morgan) were missionaries in Togo, West Africa for years!

That song gets the Gertrude seal of approval! Melissa got a little freaked when her mom got a little verklempt seeing Melissa off. She wanted to call her mom from the airport, but I said don't do it, else you and your mom will get freaked all over again!
